How do other women cope?

Different women cope with having ovarian cancer in different ways. Some will find it helpful to talk to others who've been through a similar experience, and may want to join a support group. Others will want to read every available article about ovarian cancer and get as much advice as they can. Some will find all the information overwhelming, and just want to get their treatment over with quickly so they can get on with their lives.

Some may not want to talk about it at the start, but find their feelings change as their treatment progresses.
Some women will only be able to cope by pretending it isn't happening to them.Other will want to modify their lifestyle - stopping smoking, changing their diet, getting fit. If you fall into this final category, remember not to push yourself too hard when you're undergoing treatment. Lots of women find complementary therapies helpful, but you should always talk to your oncologist before trying anything new.

A lot is said in the media about keeping a positive attitude. Although some women manage it, don't feel guilty if you can't feel positive all the time. What's more important is that you take your time and find a way to cope that suits you. You need to feel comfortable about sharing your thoughts and feelings with your family, friends and the people who're caring for you. And remember, you can call the Ovacome helpdesk for support and advice at any time.
